On a quintessential hot and humid day in Singapore, I generated a point at the void deck of my residential block, setting my intention as "New Client." As I embarked on this exploratory walk, I took in my dynamic surroundings: the sky was embellished with heavy clouds, and a soft breeze tempered the tropical heat. About 450 meters into my walk, I encountered a pair of zebra doves, also known as Australasian Doves, who seemed to greet me with their presence. Further along the route, a quote by Abraham Lincoln caught my eye from the side of a passing bus: "Towering genius disdains a beaten path; it seeks regions hitherto unexplored." The quote resonated with me; perhaps it was because Lincoln's birthday, February 12th, falls just a day after mine. Out of all the U.S. Presidents, I've always had an affinity for the 16th one. This entire walk was prompted by my partner, who had encouraged me to step out and break free from the mental fog I'd been wading through. I've been lost in the abyss of my mind lately and it had affected my psyche. So I decided to heed the advice of my favourite person in the world, duh. Approximately 300 meters from my destination, I again crossed paths with a pair of zebra doves. I wondered if they were the same duo who had appeared earlier, silently accompanying me. As I neared my coordinates, a motorcycle sticker reading "Semakin Di Depan" — Malay for "Further In Front" — amused me, seeming like yet another sign on my unique trek. Finally, I arrived at a waste chute that was under renovation. Nearby, two different parked vans caught my attention: one belonging to a grocery delivery service, the other to a facilities management company. While I'm not yet certain if they could be potential clients for my marcomms agency—which specializes in helping businesses in the built environment, architecture, construction, and engineering sectors—I'm inspired to research further. This walk, though seemingly ordinary, had offered a blend of nature, inspiration, and potential business leads, reminding me that sometimes, the unlikeliest places can yield the most surprising opportunities.
